Among the things is does, it calls /usr/sbin/detectSATA and /usr/sbin/update_smb. The file /sbin/hotplug2.mount is called when a usb drive is plugged in. I've been poking around in the Orbi software ( V2.2.1.210 ) for a couple of days now. Since it was never officially supported, it is not the most stable option over a standard Ethernet NAS wired to a satellite or the router. That said, there is mixed support with the latest version of firmware.

I have a usb2 drive plugged in and it works, fat32, 2 TB. I have a 500 Gb WD Scorpio Blue HDD in a 2.5in enclosure plugged in to my Orbi RBR50 router. I can confirm that with the latest firmware, the USB port does indeed support a haerd drive.

More discussion in various threads in the Netgear Forum like here: There are some limitations currently such as format type and which drives are supported, but if that is not a deal breaker it may give you what you're looking for. I'm not sure why other posters are suggesting the USB port is not operational, they are fully functioning and officially supported for attaching a printer for Ready Share network printing.Ī USB drive, while not officially supported, also has found success with the Orbi:
